Zbývá osm dní. Meteorit široký čtyřicet kilometrů se řítí k Zemi rychlostí třicet tisíc kilometrů v hodině. Předpokládané místo dopadu se nachází přímo uprostřed Evropy. Odhadovaná pravděpodobnost přežití se na území Evropy rovná nule. Spojené státy se samozřejmě snaží vychýlit meteorit z kolizního kurzu pomocí jaderných zbraní, ale neúspěšně. Celá Evropa je na útěku. Lidé náhle překračují rychlostní omezení jak se jim zamane, oddávají se divokému nechráněnému sexu, experimentují s drogami dle libosti, nakupují bez peněz, nepracují a milují bez následků. Co je pro ně však v posledních dnech a hodinách skutečně důležité? To je to jediné, na čem v konečném důsledku opravdu záleží...
