Divoký západ byl brutálním světem kovbojů, indiánů, desperátů a rychlých pistolníků. Země dodnes zůstává zbarvená doruda krví jejich příběhů a legend. Prohnali se tudy všichni od Jesseho Jamese přes Billyho Kida až po Butche Cassidyho a Sundance Kida. Tito muži jako první prožili americký sen a jako první pro něj také zemřeli. A kdo jiný by se tedy měl stát naším průvodcem po Divokém západě než slavný herec a znalec Robert Redford, který si Sundance Kida zahrál ve filmu? Redfordovo nadšení, znalosti a vášeň pro Divoký západ se staly základem všech osmi epizod strhujícího dobrodružného seriálu. A svou troškou přispělo i dalších osm statečných herců: Ed Harris, James Caan, Kris Kristofferson, Mark Harmon, Tom Skerrit, Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds a Kiefer Sutherland. Západ byl před svým dobytím ovládán krvelačným gangy, které mezi sebou nemilosrdně válčily o území. Bylo to období amerických dějin, jež nemá v dějinách obdoby. Tehdy mohl kdokoli přicválat do neznáma a urvat si pro sebe všechno, co chtěl – za předpokladu, že byl kvůli tomu ochotný bojovat na život a na smrt. Divoký západ se nakonec stal tím, co ve své době definovalo americkou identitu. Ale nešlo to jen tak pro nic za nic. V zemi bez spravedlnosti dlouho vládli ti, co měli sílu a moc. Všechno se točilo kolem nenasytnosti a peněz. To, že měl někdo právo na své straně, ještě nic neznamenalo. Záleželo na jediném: kdo dokáže rychleji tasit kolty a střílet.
