Oficiálně jsou bezpečnostní služba, neoficiálně MI5 nebo prostě jen "pětka". Jejich hlavní úkol: bránit národní bezpečnost Británie. A bezpečnost země může být ohrožena čímkoli. Mezinárodním terorismem, rasismem, fanatismem nejrůznějšího druhu... S tím vším je zapotřebí bojovat - a oni s tím bojují. Nejužší výběr: dva muži, jedna žena a jejich šéf. Tom, Danny, Zoe a Harry. Oddělení je samozřejmě mnohem rozsáhlejší a na některých případech nejen může, ale i musí pracovat větší tým. Tihle čtyři však tvoří jeho páteř. Čtyři lidé, kteří se v zájmu vyšších cílů museli vzdát mnohého, bez čeho si většina z nás nedokáže svůj život představit: rodiny, lásky, zázemí klidného domova. Protože člověk, který se bojí o své nejbližší, je strašně zranitelný. A protože jejich nejbližší by mohli na jejich práci krutě doplatit. Je jen jedna cesta, jak mít obojí - práci i domov: dvojí život. Ani to ovšem není záruka bezpečí. Protože i oni jsou jen lidé a život, který dnes a denně nasazují, mají jen jeden... Šestnáctidílný seriál televize BBC o instituci, zabývající se nejaktuálnějšími, nejpalčivějšími problémy současného světa, by mohl být označen za moderní, dnešní "Profesionály". Dobře napsané scénáře, věrohodné příběhy, dynamické zpracování, sympatičtí představitelé... První (šestidílná) řada získala cenu BAFTA za nejlepší seriál roku 2002, na tento úspěch navázali tvůrci dalšími deseti díly. Zajímavost: Skutečná MI5 se okamžikem zahájení vysílání seriálu začala těšit zvýšenému zájmu veřejnosti: počet uchazečů o zaměstnání stoupl ze 70 denně na 130, její webové stránky navštívilo za týden o celé čtyři tisíce lidí víc než obvykle.
