Filmed during Scotland’s busy summer season in August 2026, the series follows people who live and work along this remarkable coastline as they welcome visitors from near and far, balancing thriving local businesses with the responsibility of preserving the history, character and natural beauty of the places they are proud to call home. From the ancient woodlands and shifting dune forests of Tentsmuir, where the North Sea continues to add to the shoreline, to the puffin colonies of the Isle of May National Nature Reserve and the dolphin-rich waters of the Moray Firth, cameras will capture the landscapes and wildlife that make this golden coast such a treasure.
Friends Eileen and Jan are in Lunan Bay to begin a campervan adventure to explore the region's lighthouses. Forester Paige is helping the vast Tentsmuir Forest recover from the devastation of Storm Arwen, while photographer Kuljit shares the magic of its shifting landscape with son Uday. Across the Firth of Forth in North Berwick, the owners of a bustling clifftop café offer homemade treats with spectacular sea views.
On the golden sands of Elie in Fife, one of the world's most unusual cricket clubs prepares for its first match of the season. Further north, Stonehaven's Art Deco outdoor pool is preparing to open its doors for another summer. After months of hard work, chairman Steve and an army of volunteers race to put the finishing touches to this historic seaside institution before the first swimmers arrive.
Five miles off Scotland's east coast, the Isle of May comes alive as hundreds of thousands of seabirds return for the breeding season. Reserve manager David and his team watch over this extraordinary colony, which involves everything from counting nesting birds to braving protective Arctic terns and helping tiny pufflings take their first flight out to sea. In Angus, the Caledonian Railway offers a nostalgic journey through the countryside aboard lovingly restored trains and at the mouth of Aberdeen harbour, paddleboard instructor Campbell takes to the water to reveal a different side of the Granite City.
Local adventurer Cameron takes a group of kayakers beneath the ancient sandstone cliffs of Arbroath, then boards Arbroath's lifeboat to train with the volunteer crew. In the harbour village of Crail, Nick and Damon are breathing new life into a historic hotel. On the Fife coast, retirement has opened up a world of new adventures for Andy and Sharon. While Sharon captures the coastline in watercolour, Andy takes to the skies for a bird's-eye view.
One of Scotland's oldest surviving fishing boats sets sail from the historic harbour at Wick on a special voyage to Portsoy's traditional boat festival. At Chanonry Point, wildlife photographer Charlie and lifelong dolphin adopter Lillian hopes to catch a precious glimpse of a bottlesnose dolphin. On the shores of East Lothian, a much-loved family ice cream business takes its vintage Rolls-Royce van to North Berwick, to try out a new and exotic flavour.
