Když byl Raidó Macuboši na nižší střední, tak neměl žádné kamarády a spolužáci se ho stranili. Mladík to přikládal tomu, že jeho tvář nepůsobí zrovna přátelsky a že ani on sám nikdy nenašel odvahu někoho ze třídy sám oslovit. S příchodem na vyšší střední to má však v plánu změnit a první, s kým se hodlá spřátelit, je spolužačka, která sedí ve třídě hned vedle něj – Reina Aharen. Ovšem ukazuje se, že tahle dívka bude hodně těžký oříšek, doslova to na chlapce působí, jako by si od něj záměrně držela odstup. Vše se však změní jednoho dne, kdy Reině spadne na zem guma a chlapec ji zvedne a dívce ji vrátí. O přestávce za ním totiž Reina přijde a od té chvíle je vždy u chlapce až nepřirozeně blízko. Reina Aharen totiž nemá skoro žádné sociální cítění, a tak neví, jakou má od ostatních udržovat vzdálenost, jak se má vůči nim chovat, aby to nebylo příliš odměřené, nebo naopak příliš důvěrné, a proto si nikdy nemohla najít kamarády, protože většinu svým divným chováním odradila.
